West Bengal Police Seize ₹28.5 Crore Cash and Gold in Major Raid

In a significant operation, police in Birbhum district of West Bengal uncovered a staggering ₹28.5 crore in cash and 15 kilograms of gold bars valued at approximately ₹2 crore. This discovery was made during an extensive search that lasted nearly 20 hours at a residence in Deucha village, as reported by local media sources. The property is owned by Minar Mondal, a retired bus driver who is currently under investigation by law enforcement officials. During preliminary questioning, Mondal asserted that the seized assets did not belong to him, claiming instead that they were stored by his brother-in-law, Tulu Mondal, also known as Mohd Nazibuddin.

Tulu Mondal has a controversial history, having been arrested in connection with a murder case in 2022. He has faced multiple interrogations by federal authorities due to his suspected involvement in illegal activities related to stone, sand, and coal trades. Although he was released on bail, he has been missing since May. Reports indicate that he operated a network of dumper trucks engaged in illegal mining and managed several toll booths, with Minar Mondal allegedly overseeing one of these operations. Minar Mondal, who retired from the North Bengal State Transport Corporation in 2017, currently receives a pension of around ₹35,000 per month.
