A routine visit to a bank turned into a tragedy for a 27-year-old farmer, Manish Kumar, who lost his life due to an accidental shooting by a security guard at a Union Bank branch in Delhi on Tuesday morning. The unfortunate incident occurred while Kumar was at the bank to update his Aadhaar information. Reports indicate that the security guard, identified as Vinod Kumar, aged 53 and a retired Army personnel, was handling a firearm when it discharged unexpectedly, striking the young farmer and leading to his untimely death.
The incident unfolded around 10:30 AM as Vinod Kumar was in the process of loading cartridges into his 12-bore double-barrel shotgun inside the bank premises. According to police reports, the gun accidentally fired, hitting Manish Kumar in the back. The sudden gunfire caused chaos within the bank, prompting both customers and staff to flee the scene in panic. Emergency services were called, and Manish was found lying on the ground in a pool of blood. He was quickly transported to Rao Tula Ram Hospital, but unfortunately, medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Authorities have since arrested Vinod Kumar and initiated legal proceedings under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During police questioning, the security guard explained that he had arrived late for his shift and was loading his weapon when the bank had already opened, allowing customers and employees to enter. Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the potential for negligence or a malfunction of the firearm. The police have seized the weapon for forensic analysis and are also reviewing CCTV footage to determine if proper security protocols were adhered to during the incident. The investigation aims to clarify the events leading up to the shooting and ensure accountability for this tragic occurrence.
