Kerala Schools and Colleges Closed Due to Heavy Rain Alerts

In response to forecasts predicting severe weather, including heavy rainfall and strong winds, the district administrations in Kerala have announced the closure of educational institutions in three districts: Ernakulam, Kasaragod, and Wayanad, effective Friday, July 31. This precautionary measure follows an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which indicated the potential for significant rainfall in these areas. The decision aims to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the anticipated adverse weather conditions.

Ernakulam District Collector G. Priyanka has officially declared a holiday for all educational establishments, encompassing schools, colleges, and professional institutions. This directive also extends to anganwadis and tuition centers, reflecting a comprehensive approach to safeguarding the community. The decision was made after careful consideration of the orange alert and the forecasted risks associated with strong winds and heavy rain. Similarly, in Kasaragod, District Collector Arjun Pandian has announced a holiday for all educational institutions, including both schools and colleges, as a precautionary step. This closure encompasses a wide range of educational facilities, including ICSE and CBSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and even religious educational institutions like madrasas, although residential schools are exempt from this order. Importantly, the district administration has confirmed that any pre-scheduled university examinations and public assessments will proceed as planned, ensuring that academic schedules are minimally disrupted.
