Two Arrested in Bengaluru for Assaulting Official During Revision Drive

In Bengaluru, two individuals have been taken into custody following an incident where they allegedly assaulted a government official during a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive. The arrests occurred within the jurisdiction of the DJ Halli Police Station, highlighting the tensions that can arise during administrative processes aimed at improving voter registration and electoral participation. The accused, identified as Yarab and Dastagir, are reportedly residents of Jayanagar, a locality in the city. The incident unfolded near Kausar Mosque in Roshan Nagar around 1:30 PM, when officials from the Government Body Administration (GBA) were conducting their routine checks as part of the SIR initiative.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim, Fakirappa, the altercation began when the accused demanded SIR forms that were designated for the DJ Halli area. Fakirappa informed them that the appropriate forms could be obtained from Jayanagar, which led to a heated exchange between the parties. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in the two men allegedly physically assaulting Fakirappa, inflicting injuries to his eyebrow, mouth, and back. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the confrontation became violent, with Fakirappa sustaining a bleeding lip as a result of the attack. Fortunately, local residents intervened, separating the individuals involved and preventing further escalation of the violence.
