Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Amit Shah Over Student Protest Violence

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader and Leader of Opposition, intensified his criticism of Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the violent incidents involving students during the Cockroach Janta Party’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march that took place on July 20. Gandhi took to social media platform X to express his concerns about Shah's absence from Parliament, suggesting that it indicates a sense of guilt on the part of the Home Minister. He questioned why Shah has not come forward to address the situation and provide an explanation for the use of pellet guns against protesting students. Gandhi's remarks reflect a growing tension surrounding the government's handling of the protests, which have drawn significant public attention and condemnation. He stated, “Why is Amit Shah so scared of coming to Parliament and explaining the brutal violence against students? It reeks of guilt.”

In addition to his social media statements, Gandhi called for the establishment of an independent, high-powered committee monitored by the Supreme Court to investigate the alleged brutality faced by students during the protests. He emphasized the need for justice, asserting that students deserve a thorough inquiry into the events that transpired. “An independent SC monitored high powered committee must be constituted to probe brutalities against our students,” he wrote, underscoring the urgency of the situation. Earlier in the week, during a session in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi reiterated his accusations against Shah, claiming that the Home Minister had authorized the violent actions taken against students during the protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. This assertion has sparked significant backlash from members of the ruling NDA coalition, who have demanded that Gandhi either provide evidence for his claims or retract his statements.
