Bengaluru Enforces Water Conservation Measures Amid Shortage

In response to a significant decline in monsoon rainfall and growing concerns regarding the availability of drinking water, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has implemented stringent water conservation measures. These new regulations include a prohibition on the use of potable water for non-essential activities such as washing cars, filling swimming pools, and other similar tasks. The BWSSB is urging residents to be mindful of their water usage, emphasizing that those who violate these restrictions may face fines of up to Rs 5,000, with repeat offenders potentially experiencing reductions in their water supply.

The newly established guidelines clearly state that drinking water should not be utilized for washing vehicles, maintaining gardens and parks, cleaning streets and sidewalks, or any construction-related activities. Instead, the BWSSB has encouraged residents, businesses, and contractors to seek out treated water or alternative sources for these purposes. Additionally, the use of potable water in both private and public swimming pools has been banned, with the board recommending that only treated or recycled water be utilized for such facilities. This initiative is part of a broader effort to conserve water during a time when rainfall levels are critically low.
