Delhi Court Cancels Non-Bailable Warrant Against SFI Leader Aishe Ghosh

In a significant development for Aishe Ghosh, the former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU), the Patiala House Court in New Delhi has cancelled the non-bailable warrant (NBW) that was previously issued against her. This decision came after Ghosh made a personal appearance in court, which led to the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Vijayshree Rathore, revoking the warrant. However, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on Ghosh as part of the proceedings. Ghosh's legal representative, Advocate Jaimon Andrews, was present during the hearing, which concluded without any complications. Following the session, Ghosh expressed her satisfaction with the outcome, stating that the court has scheduled the next hearing for November. She emphasized that her legal team will continue to monitor the case closely and adhere to all necessary legal protocols moving forward.

The non-bailable warrant against Ghosh was issued in connection with a case that dates back to 2021, linked to a protest that occurred outside the Bengal Bhawan. During this protest, Ghosh was accused of contravening directives issued by government officials, which led to the legal actions against her. The warrant was initially issued on April 11 of this year, citing her alleged violations during the demonstration. Following the issuance of the warrant, a plea was filed on July 29 by the applicant, requesting the court to annul the NBW, citing unavoidable circumstances that had prevented Ghosh from attending the earlier hearings. The court had previously stayed the warrant until the next scheduled hearing, which was set for August 30, and had directed Ghosh to appear in court on that date.
