Serious Charges Against Trainee IPS Officer in Hyderabad Academy Case

The recent arrest of a trainee officer from the prestigious Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad has raised significant concerns regarding the safety and conduct within elite police training institutions in India. Initially charged with sexual harassment and stalking, the case has escalated dramatically as the Hyderabad Police have now included serious allegations of rape and attempted murder against the 33-year-old officer following a complaint from a fellow probationer. The woman, who is also a trainee at the academy, reported that she had been subjected to ongoing harassment, threats, and physical assault, prompting the police to take swift action. The new charges were added after investigators meticulously reviewed the complainant's testimony and medical evidence, which reportedly indicated signs of physical violence, including strangulation marks on her neck.

The complainant, a 30-year-old IPS probationer, claimed that the accused had threatened her with a knife and engaged in a pattern of intimidation and emotional abuse. The police have detailed that her medical examination revealed injuries consistent with her account, which has led to the inclusion of Sections 64(1) for rape and 109 for attempted murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the First Information Report (FIR).
