Life in Jail: Accused Women Focus on Rehabilitation Amid Legal Battles

In Meerut District Jail, two women accused of high-profile murder cases are navigating their daily lives amidst serious allegations. Damini Panwar, implicated in the alleged murder of her husband through a snakebite conspiracy, dedicates her time to managing the prison library and assisting fellow inmates with educational activities. Her educational background has made her a valuable resource for others in the facility. Meanwhile, Muskan Rastogi, accused of murdering her husband and concealing his body in a cement-filled drum, is focused on caring for her infant daughter while participating in psychological counseling and devotional programs offered within the prison.

Both women are undertrial prisoners, and their cases are progressing through the legal system. Muskan has been in custody since March 2026, following her arrest in connection with the murder of Saurabh Rajput, a former Merchant Navy officer. Police allege that she and her lover, Sahil Shukla, killed Rajput upon his return from London, subsequently dismembering his body and attempting to conceal it in a blue drum filled with cement to evade detection. Muskan has consistently denied these allegations, and the case is currently awaiting trial after a chargesheet was filed.
