The rapid rise of quick commerce in India has transformed the shopping experience for many, allowing consumers to receive groceries and essential items at their doorstep within minutes. This convenience has led to a significant shift in consumer habits, with millions relying on these services for their daily needs. However, as the industry expands, a growing number of complaints have emerged, raising critical concerns about the quality of products being delivered and the transparency of information provided to buyers. A campaign initiated by Times Now Digital, titled 'E-Comms Hiding Health Info,' aims to hold various platforms accountable for their failure to disclose essential product details such as manufacturing and expiry dates. Unlike traditional retail, where shoppers can physically inspect items before purchase, online consumers often lack access to this vital information, leading to potential health risks and dissatisfaction.
The campaign has highlighted the discrepancies between consumer expectations and the reality of quick commerce services. Platforms like Zepto, Amazon Now, Swiggy Instamart, Blinkit, BigBasket, and Flipkart Minutes have been called out for not providing adequate product information, which is crucial for informed purchasing decisions. Regulatory bodies have issued several notices to these companies over the past year, urging them to improve transparency and accountability. However, the response from these platforms has been lackluster, with many consumer inquiries going unanswered. Social media has become a platform for consumers to voice their frustrations, with numerous posts detailing experiences of receiving expired or spoiled products. One user recounted receiving rotten bananas and expired pineapple slices from Zepto, questioning the effectiveness of food safety checks in place. Another customer reported receiving expired items and criticized the company's lack of standard operating procedures for handling such issues.
