Bangladesh Names Litton Das As New ODI Captain Ahead of World Cup 2027

In a significant shift within the Bangladesh cricket team, Litton Das has been appointed as the new captain for the One Day International (ODI) format, taking over from Mehidy Hasan Miraz. This decision comes on the heels of Bangladesh's recent 2-1 ODI series defeat to Zimbabwe, which prompted the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to reassess its leadership structure. Under Miraz's captaincy, which began in June 2025, the team achieved a record of 10 wins and 9 losses across 20 matches. Despite a commendable start, the board felt a change was necessary as they prepare for the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup scheduled for next year. Das, who has already been leading the team in T20 Internationals, now assumes the dual responsibility of guiding the ODI squad as well.

The announcement was made by BCB President Tamim Iqbal during a board meeting held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Iqbal emphasized the board's decision to streamline the captaincy roles, reducing the number of captains from three to two. He expressed that having fewer captains would provide a more cohesive leadership structure for the team. "We previously had three captains for the three formats. I believe we should have two captains, and the board shares that view," Iqbal stated to the media following the meeting. This strategic move is aimed at fostering a more unified approach as the team gears up for international competitions.
