Lovepreet Singh Secures Silver in Men's Weightlifting at CWG 2026

In a remarkable display of strength and skill, Lovepreet Singh, a bronze medalist from the 2022 Commonwealth Games, achieved a silver medal for India in the men’s +110kg weightlifting category at the Commonwealth Games 2026 held on July 30. The 28-year-old athlete from Amritsar showcased his exceptional talent by lifting a total of 388kg, which included impressive performances in both the snatch and clean and jerk segments of the competition. His journey to the podium was marked by a series of successful lifts that highlighted his dedication and training leading up to this prestigious event.

During the competition, Lovepreet executed three snatch attempts, lifting 168kg, 173kg, and ultimately 176kg, which set a new Commonwealth Games record. Following the snatch, he transitioned to the clean and jerk, where he successfully lifted 205kg and 212kg in his first two attempts. Despite his outstanding performance, he narrowly missed out on the gold medal, which was claimed by New Zealand’s David Andrew Liti, who lifted a total of 389kg. Liti's successful lifts included 166kg in his second snatch attempt and an impressive 223kg in his second clean and jerk attempt, securing his victory by just one kilogram over Lovepreet.
