Rahul Gandhi Calls for Supreme Court Probe into Student Protests

In a significant political move, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has called for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the alleged police violence against students during recent protests. This demand comes amid accusations directed at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, whom Gandhi claims is evading Parliament due to fear of accountability regarding the reported brutalities faced by student demonstrators. The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha shared a video on social media platform X, depicting police officers using batons against students, further fueling his call for justice. Gandhi emphasized that students have the right to fair treatment and urged the establishment of an independent, high-powered committee under the Supreme Court to thoroughly investigate the incidents that transpired during the protests, particularly during a march led by the Cockroach Janta Party to Parliament on July 20. He expressed deep concern over the police's aggressive tactics against peaceful protesters, asserting that such actions cannot go unexamined.

Gandhi's remarks included pointed questions regarding Amit Shah's apparent silence on the matter, asking, "Why is Amit Shah so scared?" This inquiry reflects his belief that the Home Minister's absence from Parliament is indicative of guilt regarding the police's actions against students. The Congress leader has been vocal in his criticism, previously demanding Shah's resignation from the Union Cabinet and labeling the police response as a "brutal attack" on students, which allegedly involved the use of pellet guns. He argued that if Shah had indeed sanctioned these actions, he should be held accountable, while also suggesting that if Shah was unaware of the police's use of such force, it would reflect poorly on his competence as a leader. This situation has escalated tensions between the Congress party and the ruling BJP, with the latter dismissing Gandhi's claims as a series of falsehoods and demanding an apology for what they describe as the misuse of parliamentary proceedings.
