Priyanka Gandhi Addresses Controversy Over New Hockey Jersey Colors

In response to the growing concerns regarding the recent decision by Hockey India to introduce a predominantly orange jersey for the national hockey teams, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has voiced her opinion, emphasizing that the youth of India have already expressed their sentiments on the matter. Former Indian hockey captain Viren Rasquinha had previously raised alarms about the potential replacement of the traditional blue jersey, which has long been associated with the team’s identity, with this new color scheme. Gandhi stated, "Regardless of any changes made, the youth have made their voices heard. The gathering at Jantar Mantar showcased their sentiments, and that is the true voice of the nation." She highlighted that the essence of India’s freedom struggle was rooted in principles of non-violence and truth, asserting that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) played no role in this historical narrative. Gandhi emphasized that the core values of the nation cannot be erased, regardless of political maneuvers or ideological shifts.

She continued by asserting that no force can diminish the fundamental values that define the nation. "It does not matter what they do or how they attempt to sow discord and hatred. Ultimately, the spirit of this country is one of unity and brotherhood, and that cannot be taken away," she remarked. The controversy surrounding the jersey change has sparked significant debate, with Rasquinha expressing his discontent over the decision. He pointed out that the blue jersey has been a symbol of pride for the Indian hockey team and questioned the reasoning behind the shift to orange. Taking to social media, Rasquinha acknowledged the positive contributions of Hockey India to the sport but expressed disappointment over the new jersey design, stating, "I must say that @TheHockeyIndia has done many good things for Indian hockey. But this is embarrassing."
