Lighthearted Exchange Between Priyanka Gandhi and Kalyan Banerjee Amid Protests

In the midst of a tumultuous atmosphere marked by protests and political debates outside Parliament, a light-hearted interaction occurred between Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee on Thursday. This exchange provided a refreshing moment of levity amid the ongoing tensions surrounding various political issues. Banerjee, who has been suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the Monsoon Session, was actively protesting outside Makar Dwar against the merger of TMC MPs with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). He was seen carrying a placard featuring photographs of Trinamool MPs who have recently defected from the party, further highlighting the internal strife within the TMC.

During the protest, Priyanka Gandhi noticed the poster draped around Banerjee’s neck and, with a playful demeanor, inquired whether the images were duplicated on the reverse side. To this, Banerjee confirmed, prompting Priyanka to encourage him to turn around and display the poster to the waiting photographers. When reporters questioned Banerjee about the content of the poster, he referred to it as showcasing the “photos of 20 traitors,” a pointed remark aimed at the TMC Lok Sabha MPs who have distanced themselves from Mamata Banerjee’s leadership to align with the NCPI, thereby supporting the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In a witty retort, Priyanka quipped that Banerjee had taken them from Congress to TMC, to which he responded by asserting that those individuals had initially entered Parliament on TMC tickets, while also noting Congress's diminishing presence in West Bengal. He reminisced about his own political beginnings within Congress.
