The President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Tamim Iqbal, is actively advocating for a cricket tour from India to Bangladesh, which would include three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and an equal number of T20 matches. This series faced significant uncertainty following a decline in cricket relations between the two nations, particularly after the government led by Muhammad Yunus declined to send the national team to the T20 World Cup hosted in India. The refusal was primarily due to security apprehensions, despite the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) providing multiple reassurances regarding safety. However, recent geopolitical shifts have sparked renewed optimism that the series could proceed as initially planned. In his statements, Tamim emphasized the importance of this series for both cricket fans and players alike, highlighting the excitement it generates across various stakeholders, including journalists and supporters.
In his remarks, Tamim expressed his commitment to engaging with the BCCI to facilitate the tour, stating, “Unfortunately, I don't have any news regarding the India series. I am in discussions with the BCCI, and there's an exchange of emails happening between BCB members, and we are trying from all quarters.” He underscored the significance of the series, asserting that the anticipation surrounding matches against India is unparalleled. Furthermore, he reassured that Bangladesh is a secure venue for international cricket, expressing hope that the Indian team would agree to participate. “Bangladesh is an extremely safe country, and I am very hopeful that they will come. Whatever steps need to be taken from our side, we are trying,” he added, while also acknowledging the boundaries of his role as BCB president, indicating that he is doing everything within his capacity to promote the benefits of the series.
