Ferrari's Fred Vasseur Remains Cautious Despite Strong Practice in Hungary

Fred Vasseur, the team principal of Ferrari, has urged caution following a promising performance from his drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, during the initial practice sessions at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Both drivers showcased their skills, finishing first and second respectively, with Hamilton clocking a remarkable lap time of 1:18.729, just 0.148 seconds ahead of Leclerc. However, Vasseur emphasized the need for tempered expectations as the weekend unfolds, citing potential challenges that could arise from tyre management issues, limited data collection, and the interruptions that plagued the practice sessions. He underscored that while the early results are encouraging, the competitive nature of the sport means that rivals are likely to improve their performance as the event progresses.

Vasseur expressed his thoughts on the situation, stating, “So far, so good,” but quickly added, “It is only Friday, and it is a good start, but let’s see tomorrow when it can be a different story. Everyone will improve.” His comments reflect a strategic mindset, acknowledging that the unpredictable nature of racing could lead to changes in performance as teams adapt and refine their setups. The Ferrari team faced challenges in fully grasping the behaviour of their tyres, particularly during the second practice session, which was marred by disruptions that hindered their ability to gather crucial data.
