Chad le Clos Sets New Commonwealth Games Medal Record

Chad le Clos, the renowned South African swimmer, has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing his 21st medal at the Commonwealth Games, thus surpassing the previous record held by Australia's Emma McKeon. This achievement solidifies his status as the most decorated athlete in the history of the Commonwealth Games. The 34-year-old athlete contributed significantly to South Africa's performance in the men's 4×100 medley relay, where the team clinched a bronze medal late on Wednesday. This latest medal adds to his impressive tally from the ongoing Games, which includes a silver in the mixed 4×100 medley and another bronze in the men’s 4×100 freestyle relay.

Le Clos's extraordinary collection of medals now comprises seven golds, five silvers, and nine bronzes, accumulated over five Commonwealth Games since his debut in Delhi in 2010 at just 18 years old. During his first appearance, he made a significant impact by winning five medals, followed by an impressive seven medals at the Glasgow Games in 2014. He continued his success with five additional medals on the Gold Coast in 2018 and one in Birmingham in 2022.
