Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been appointed as the vice-captain for the East Zone team in the upcoming 2026 Duleep Trophy, which is scheduled to commence on August 23 in Bengaluru. This young left-handed batter hails from Bihar and has already made a mark by representing India in six T20 International matches earlier in July 2026. His inclusion in the East Zone squad reflects his growing reputation in Indian cricket, and he will be taking on a leadership role alongside the team’s captain, Ishan Kishan, who is also a wicketkeeper-batter from Jharkhand. The squad boasts several prominent players, including seasoned bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar, adding depth and experience to the team as they prepare for the tournament.
The East Zone team is set to compete in a challenging six-team format, with their first match against the North East Zone in the quarterfinals. This year's Duleep Trophy promises to be an exciting event, showcasing some of the best talents in Indian cricket. Alongside Sooryavanshi, the squad features notable players such as Abhimanyu Easwaran, who previously captained India A, and Bengal all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmad. Other key members include Virat Singh and Kumar Kushagra from Jharkhand, who are expected to contribute significantly to the team's performance. The blend of youth and experience within the squad aims to create a competitive edge as they vie for the prestigious title.
