In response to escalating tensions, Delhi Police has significantly heightened security measures at Jantar Mantar following a warning from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) regarding the resumption of protests. The CJP has made it clear that they will restart their demonstrations unless all First Information Reports (FIRs) against their members are immediately retracted. This warning has prompted authorities to deploy additional police personnel and strengthen barricades around the protest area to prevent any potential unrest. The site, which previously hosted a 36-day protest demanding the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, now features barricades that have been welded together with iron for enhanced security. The Rapid Action Force (RAF) has also been stationed at the location, working alongside local police to maintain order and ensure the safety of all involved.
The CJP's warning, issued on Tuesday, accused the central government of not fulfilling its promise to refrain from taking legal action against demonstrators. CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka expressed concerns over what he described as a “complete breach” of an understanding reached on July 25 with the government. He pointed out that numerous students had been detained in states governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), raising alarms about the treatment of protesters. Ranka's statements reflect a growing frustration within the CJP regarding the government's handling of the situation, as they demand the withdrawal of all FIRs, the release of those detained, and a cessation of new criminal cases initiated by various police forces, particularly in BJP-ruled states. The CJP is also calling for the immediate release of the signed agreement that was previously established with the government.
