Maharashtra Expands Anti-Drug Campaign to Schools and Colleges Statewide

The state of Maharashtra is set to broaden its anti-drug initiative beyond Mumbai, with plans to implement the successful 'Drugs Free Mumbai' model across the entire state. This strategic move by the government aims to establish 'Nasha Mukti Guidance and Counselling Committees' in educational institutions, including schools and colleges, to proactively identify and support students who may be at risk of substance abuse. By integrating these committees into the educational framework, the state hopes to enhance preventive measures and foster a supportive environment for young individuals vulnerable to drug-related issues.

The initiative is designed to empower educational institutions to take an active role in combating drug abuse by promoting awareness, early intervention, and counseling. Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, who leads the high-level committee overseeing the de-addiction awareness campaign, expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for endorsing the proposal. Lodha emphasized that extending the Mumbai model throughout Maharashtra represents a pivotal advancement towards achieving a drug-free state, highlighting the importance of addressing substance abuse within the educational sector.
