Karnataka Cabinet Expansion Expected by August 3 as Leaders Consult

The anticipated expansion of the Karnataka Cabinet is set to occur by August 3, with Chief Minister D K Shivakumar actively engaging in discussions with senior Congress officials to finalize the details. On Thursday, Shivakumar met with his predecessor, Siddaramaiah, at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi, where they deliberated on the upcoming cabinet changes. Following their meeting, Shivakumar expressed optimism, stating that the preparations for the expansion are nearing completion. He remarked to reporters, "Everything has been finalized," indicating that the process is well underway.

In addition to his meeting with Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar is scheduled to confer with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge later today. This meeting is crucial as it is expected that the final list of ministers will receive approval from the party's top leadership, which includes Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The cabinet expansion is particularly timely, coinciding with the upcoming session of the Karnataka Legislature, set to commence on August 6. Congress officials have indicated that the expansion will proceed once the high command endorses the proposed candidates and provides the necessary authorization.
