Delhi Prepares for Kanwar Yatra by Closing Illegal Meat Shops

In preparation for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued directives aimed at closing down unauthorized meat shops along the routes taken by devotees and near designated camps. This initiative comes as part of the city's broader effort to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience for the thousands of Kanwariyas expected to participate. The MCD has instructed officials across all twelve zones to take immediate action against any illegal establishments and to monitor licensed outlets for compliance with their permit conditions. The Kanwar Yatra is set to take place from July 30 to August 11, with a total of 308 camps established throughout the national capital to accommodate the influx of devotees.

In an official memorandum released on Monday, the MCD emphasized the importance of clearing encroachments from identified camp sites prior to the commencement of the yatra. Zonal deputy commissioners have been tasked with ensuring that these areas are free from unauthorized structures, allowing for a safe and organized environment for the pilgrims. The MCD has already provided detailed information regarding the locations of the camps, and there is a possibility for additional camps to be set up if necessary. The civic body is committed to enforcing regulations that prohibit the operation of unlicensed meat shops along the yatra routes and around the camps, and it has mandated that any licensed shops found in violation of their operational terms face appropriate action.
