Ather Energy Launches Pothole+ Feature for Electric Scooters

Ather Energy has initiated the rollout of its innovative Pothole+ feature, which is now available for Gen 2 and newer models of its electric scooters through an over-the-air (OTA) update. This update encompasses popular models such as the Rizta, 450X, and 450 Apex, along with other scooters that operate on the latest version of Ather's software. Notably, the introduction of Pothole+ does not necessitate any new hardware; instead, it leverages existing technology to enhance rider safety. The feature utilizes anonymized data collected from the extensive network of Ather scooters to alert riders about road sections where potholes have been frequently identified. The rollout has commenced, but it's important to note that not all eligible scooter owners will receive the update simultaneously, as it is being distributed in phases.

The Pothole+ feature operates on a straightforward principle: it provides warnings to riders when another compatible scooter is navigating a stretch of road that has been flagged for potholes. This proactive alert system aims to give riders ample time to either reduce their speed or adjust their path to avoid potential hazards. The effectiveness of Pothole+ is directly linked to the volume of Ather scooters that regularly traverse specific roads. Consequently, while the system can effectively warn riders about known potholes, it may not immediately alert them to newly formed potholes or those located on less-traveled routes. As the update is rolled out in phases, the availability of Pothole+ may vary among different scooters, with the feature being activated once the software reaches an eligible vehicle as part of the latest AtherStack update.
