Neeraj Chopra, the celebrated javelin thrower and 2018 Commonwealth Games champion, is set to make his mark at the upcoming CWG 2026. Today, on July 30, he will compete in the qualification round for the Men's Javelin Throw at the Scotsoun Stadium in Glasgow. This event features 18 athletes from various countries, all vying for a spot in the final competition scheduled for July 31. The top 12 throwers will advance to the medal round, and Neeraj is determined to add to his impressive collection of accolades, which includes multiple medals from the Olympics, World Championships, and Asian Games. Having previously secured gold in the 2021 Olympics and silver in 2024, along with a silver medal at the 2022 World Championships and gold in 2023, Neeraj is focused on achieving further success in his athletic career.

After missing the chance to defend his title at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham due to injury, Neeraj is eager to return to competitive form. His last major event was the World Championships last year, which kept him sidelined for an extended period. He made his comeback at the Doha Diamond League, where he finished fourth with a throw of 85.69 meters. This qualification event is crucial for him as he aims to secure a place in the final. The qualification round will commence at 2:55 PM IST, and any athlete who throws over 84 meters will automatically qualify. In the event that fewer than 12 athletes achieve this mark, those with the best distances will still have the opportunity to advance.
