FIFA President Gianni Infantino has stirred considerable discussion within the football community with his latest proposal to establish a new commercial subsidiary, projected to be valued at approximately $20 billion. This initiative aims to attract outside investors for the first time, with the intention of channeling the generated funds into enhancing financial support for football associations globally. Proponents of this ambitious plan argue that it will lead to unprecedented investments in football development, while critics express concerns about the potential commercialization of FIFA without sufficient transparency or consultation with stakeholders.
The proposed entity, named FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), is designed to manage FIFA's revenue-generating operations. According to reports, the valuation of this new subsidiary has been assessed by JPMorgan, which is also providing advisory services for this venture. Under the proposal, FIFA intends to maintain majority ownership of FFE while offering up to a 20% minority stake to external investors. This strategy is projected to yield several billion dollars in funding while ensuring that FIFA retains control over its competitions and governance structures. Infantino believes that by segregating FIFA's commercial activities into a dedicated company, the organization can better capitalize on its expanding portfolio of tournaments and significantly enhance financial resources for football development.
