Priyanka Gandhi Stands Firm on Remarks Against Education Minister Joshi

On Wednesday, Congress Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra responded assertively to accusations that her comments in Parliament were inappropriate. Addressing journalists outside the parliamentary premises, she defended her statements aimed at Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, asserting that her remarks were grounded in factual evidence and highlighted a pervasive 'systemic attitude' towards women in politics. Vadra emphasized her determination to remain undeterred by threats of disciplinary action or sanctions from parliamentary authorities. She pointed out that her criticisms were not baseless but were reflective of a broader issue regarding the treatment of women within the political landscape.

In her defense, Vadra referenced previous incidents, notably the controversial induction of an individual linked to the 2009 Mangalore pub assault into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by Pralhad Joshi. She questioned the rationale behind labeling her comments as unparliamentary, stating, 'What was unparliamentary about it? It was simply the truth. If they want to punish me for speaking the truth, well, I will speak the truth.' She further elaborated on the incident, recalling that while the individual was expelled shortly after his induction, the very act of his joining the party was indicative of Joshi's attitude towards women's issues. Her remarks were part of a broader critique of the government's handling of various matters, including examination irregularities and accountability concerning the Bilkis Bano case.
