PIB Exposes AI Deepfakes of Modi and Goyal Amid Student Protests

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has recently addressed the issue of misleading AI-generated videos featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal. These deepfake videos have been circulating on social media platforms, particularly during a time of significant student protests across the nation. The PIB's Fact Check Unit has confirmed that these videos are not genuine and have been manipulated to misrepresent the statements of both leaders. The bureau emphasized that neither PM Modi nor Goyal made the comments depicted in these clips, which have been linked to accounts believed to be spreading propaganda from Pakistan.

In the fabricated videos, spliced audio clips portray PM Modi and Minister Goyal as threatening students who are protesting against recent developments in the education sector. The PIB issued a statement on social media platform X, clarifying, "Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating a video of Prime Minister @narendramodi featuring fabricated statements that he never made regarding the protest in Delhi." The PIB firmly stated, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi did NOT make any such statement," and encouraged the public to report any suspicious content related to the Government of India to their fact-checking unit through WhatsApp or email. This proactive approach aims to combat the spread of misinformation during a sensitive period of unrest among students.
