Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Trains Enhance Services for Kanwar Yatra 2026

In a significant development for commuters and Kanwar pilgrims traveling between Delhi and Meerut, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has announced an increase in the frequency of Namo Bharat trains during the ongoing Shravan month and the Kanwar Yatra. This adjustment, which will be in effect from July 30 to August 14, aims to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger numbers and facilitate smoother travel experiences, particularly in light of road closures and traffic diversions that typically accompany the pilgrimage. The NCRTC has committed to operating an additional 52 train trips each day throughout this period, a move that is expected to greatly enhance the convenience of travel for those making the journey.

With these changes, passengers utilizing the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor will benefit from significantly reduced waiting times. Instead of the previous wait of up to 10 minutes for a train, services will now be available every eight minutes along the entire route, which extends from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. This improvement is particularly crucial as the number of travelers is expected to rise dramatically during the holy month of Shravan, when thousands of Kanwar pilgrims embark on their journeys. The NCRTC has indicated that should the demand for services exceed their projections, they are prepared to introduce even more train services to meet the needs of the public.

Currently, the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor serves approximately 100,000 passengers daily. With the influx of Kanwar pilgrims expected in the coming weeks, the NCRTC anticipates a significant increase in daily ridership. The enhancements to train frequency are designed not only to accommodate the needs of Kanwar pilgrims but also to assist office workers, students, and regular commuters traveling between Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. In addition to the Namo Bharat services, the Meerut Metro will continue to operate, ensuring seamless connectivity within the city. Authorities have implemented traffic diversions and temporary road closures in various areas of western Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region to facilitate the movement of pilgrims, which often results in severe congestion and longer travel times for other motorists. The NCRTC emphasizes that the additional train services will provide a reliable alternative for commuters during this busy period. However, they also caution that road closures related to the Kanwar Yatra may temporarily impact parking availability at certain Namo Bharat stations. An NCRTC spokesperson stated, “Road closures may temporarily affect parking facilities at some Namo Bharat stations. The NCRTC will keep commuters informed if such a situation arises.” To ensure safe and efficient operations throughout the Kanwar Yatra, the NCRTC is collaborating closely with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in Delhi and the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF) in Uttar Pradesh, implementing additional operational and security measures to minimize inconvenience and guarantee a smooth travel experience for all passengers during this festive period.
