Family members of Delhi Police officers who were injured during the violent protests at Jantar Mantar on July 20 have come forward to share their harrowing experiences and the emotional toll the incidents have taken on them. The protests were organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), and the clashes that ensued raised serious concerns about the safety and recognition of police personnel during such events. During a press conference held on Friday, the daughter of a Delhi Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recounted her father’s severe injuries sustained when he was attacked by a mob. She emphasized her father's long-standing commitment to serving the nation, having previously served as a Marine Commando in the Indian Navy for 15 years before joining the police force. Her account highlighted the dangers faced by officers on duty, particularly during protests that can quickly escalate into violence. She recounted how her father had expressed concerns about the nature of the protests, noting that they had transformed from a peaceful demonstration into a chaotic scene involving many antisocial elements.
The daughter vividly described the moment her father was injured, stating that he was nearly lynched by a rowdy crowd near the main stage at Jantar Mantar. She recalled the distressing sight of her father being brought home later that night, his uniform soaked in blood after being unconscious for several hours at RML Hospital. The emotional impact of the incident was compounded by the negative portrayal of police personnel on social media, where her father was labeled a criminal. This prompted her to seek justice not only for her father but also for other police families who faced similar challenges. She expressed her determination to stand up for their rights and joined forces with other families to approach the Supreme Court, seeking legal representation to ensure their voices were heard.
