Solar Chargers Provide Vital Connectivity Amid Assam Floods

As Assam faces one of the most severe flood crises of the season, the impact on human lives continues to escalate. The death toll from the floods has tragically reached 81, with over 300,000 individuals affected across the state. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 300,031 residents have been impacted in 551 villages across 21 revenue circles. Additionally, the floods have devastated 21,523 hectares of agricultural land, leaving countless families struggling to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of this disaster.

In the hardest-hit regions of Upper Assam, prolonged power outages have left entire communities isolated from the outside world. With no electricity available to charge mobile devices, many flood victims find themselves unable to reach out to family members, access medical care, receive vital government updates, or coordinate relief efforts—situations where communication is crucial. However, amid this challenging scenario, one young innovator is stepping up to make a significant impact. Abhijeet Dowarah, a local entrepreneur, is traveling from one flood-affected village to another in the Sivasagar district, bringing with him not just technology but a lifeline for those in need. His portable solar-powered mobile charging stations are helping restore connectivity to communities that have been largely cut off due to the floods.
