Dubey has been unaccounted for since last week when the merchant vessel he was working on was struck by drones near the Port of Odesa in Ukraine. The incident has left his family anxious and concerned, as they grapple with the uncertainty surrounding his fate. Dubey was aboard the Palau-flagged General Cargo Ship AGN RAGNAR, which came under attack on July 25 while navigating the Bystre Mouth of the Danube River as it entered the Black Sea. Reports indicate that during the assault, two Indian crew members, including Dubey, jumped overboard and have not been found since. The remaining crew members, totaling seven, were rescued by the Ukrainian Coast Guard, including two other Indian nationals and the ship's pilot. This attack is part of a broader pattern of escalating tensions in the region, which have intensified due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Seemakshi Pandey, Dubey's elder sister, shared that her brother frequently kept in touch with the family, often checking in to see how everyone was doing. She recounted that his last conversation with their mother, Kalpana Dubey, took place on the evening of July 24, just before the ship set sail from Ukraine. In her words, "He would call home frequently to check on everyone. The last time he spoke to our mother was on the night of July 24. He told her the ship had departed from Ukraine." Following the drone attack, the family received a call from the shipping company the next day, July 26, informing them about the incident. A representative from the company explained that the vessel had been targeted by drones near the Port of Odesa and that four Indian crew members had jumped into the sea during the chaos. Seemakshi expressed her distress, noting that while two crew members had been rescued, her brother and another individual remained missing.
