The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, a significant infrastructure project costing approximately Rs 4,700 crore, has recently faced severe scrutiny due to multiple road collapses occurring shortly after its inauguration. In just 17 days, the expressway has experienced three separate incidents of structural failure, raising alarms regarding the quality of construction and the durability of the materials used. This expressway, designed to enhance connectivity in Uttar Pradesh, has instead become a focal point of criticism, as it fails to deliver the smooth travel experience that was promised.
The latest collapse took place near Begumkheda village in the Asoha block of Unnao, where a section of the roadway caved in for the third time. Reports indicate that the construction agency was engaged in repair work at the site when the incident occurred. A truck loaded with gravel overturned after the road gave way just a few meters from the maintenance area, leading to chaos and concern among those nearby. Fortunately, the driver was rescued without any injuries, and a bulldozer was deployed to clear the debris and right the overturned vehicle. The construction firm responsible for the expressway, PNC, is currently working on repairs to the affected stretch, but the frequency of these collapses has raised serious questions about the expressway's safety and construction standards.
