Pune Autorickshaw Fares Set for Increase Following RTO Approval

The cost of autorickshaw rides in Pune is poised to rise as the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has given the green light to a fare hike proposal. This decision is now pending final approval from the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), which will review the proposal in its upcoming meeting. If the RTA endorses the fare adjustments, residents can expect the new rates to be implemented shortly thereafter, marking a significant change in the city's transportation landscape.

The fare revision comes in response to persistent requests from autorickshaw unions, who have been vocal about the financial strain drivers are facing due to escalating operational costs. The unions have highlighted that the recent surge in prices for compressed natural gas (CNG) and other fuel types has rendered the current fare structure unsustainable. In light of these concerns, the Pune RTO has crafted a revised fare proposal, which has now been submitted to the RTA for consideration. The RTA, led by Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, is expected to deliberate on the proposal during its next session, where the final decision will be made regarding the fare adjustments.
