Delhi Police Refutes Claims of Jantar Mantar Closure for Protests

On Thursday, the Delhi Police officially addressed and refuted the circulating rumors on social media that suggested Jantar Mantar had been closed or locked to prevent protests. In a statement released on the platform X, the police labeled these claims as "false, misleading, and devoid of facts." They emphasized that Jantar Mantar remains an authorized location for peaceful demonstrations, provided that the necessary permissions are obtained from the relevant authorities and that the prescribed conditions are followed. The police reiterated that the existing protocols for organizing protests at this site have not changed.

According to the Delhi Police, organizers of protests must submit a formal application requesting permission to hold their events. Once this application is approved by the appropriate authority, a maximum of 1,000 participants is allowed to gather at the venue. These regulations are in line with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) established by the Supreme Court, ensuring that protests can be conducted in an orderly and lawful manner. The police's clarification came in response to a wave of viral posts on social media that falsely claimed Jantar Mantar had been rendered unavailable for protests, particularly following the political controversies surrounding the recent protests led by the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP).
