Bombay High Court Rejects NEET UG 2026 Tampering Claims, Imposes Costs

The Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court has recently dismissed four writ petitions filed by candidates who alleged tampering with their OMR answer sheets during the NEET UG 2026 re-examination held on June 21, 2026. The petitioners, identified as Atharva, Hricha, Soham, and Rahul, claimed that there were discrepancies in their answer sheets and the evaluation process. However, the court found that all four candidates had previously utilized the official grievance redressal mechanism established by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to raise their concerns before resorting to legal action. After reviewing the original OMR answer sheets and hearing arguments from the NTA, the High Court dismissed two of the petitions on substantive grounds. The other two candidates opted to withdraw their petitions during the proceedings, leading to a resolution of the matter in court.

The NTA reported that the candidates had already received responses through the established grievance redressal process, which is designed to address any issues related to OMR sheets and evaluation. Despite this, the petitioners proceeded to the High Court, alleging that their answer sheets had been tampered with or evaluated incorrectly. Upon examination of the original OMR records in two of the cases, the Aurangabad Bench found no basis for the claims and subsequently dismissed the petitions. The remaining two candidates chose to withdraw their complaints, effectively concluding their legal challenges. This decision comes in the wake of numerous claims regarding discrepancies in the NEET UG 2026 results and OMR sheets that emerged following the re-examination.
