Assam Board Provides Free Duplicate Certificates for Flood-Affected Students

In response to the ongoing flood crisis in Assam, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has announced a significant initiative aimed at assisting students who have lost essential academic documents due to the disaster. The board will issue duplicate copies of pass certificates, admit cards, marksheets, and registration cards for the HSLC/AHM and HS Final Examinations at no cost to those affected by the floods. This measure is particularly aimed at students from the districts that have been severely impacted, allowing them to recover their lost documents without the burden of fees. Students interested in obtaining these duplicates can easily apply through the official websites: sebaservices.in for HSLC/AHM Examination documents and ahsec.assam.gov.in for HS Final Examination materials. The board has clarified that applicants will not need to provide a police report to secure these duplicates. Instead, they are required to submit a self-certification indicating their status as flood-affected individuals, which will be uploaded on the respective portals. This approach is designed to streamline the process and ensure that students can quickly regain access to their academic records.

The decision to waive fees for duplicate certificates is part of a broader relief effort aimed at supporting students and their families during this challenging time. The floods in Assam have had a devastating impact, with the death toll tragically rising to 75 as of the latest reports. In the past 24 hours alone, seven additional fatalities have been confirmed, although the overall number of individuals affected by the floods has decreased to approximately 332,000. The state government has responded to this crisis by increasing the ex gratia compensation for the families of those who have lost their lives to Rs 9 lakh each, while also relaxing the eligibility criteria for receiving this support. The situation remains critical in several districts, including Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, and Kamrup Metropolitan, where 21 revenue circles and 622 villages continue to face the repercussions of the flooding.
