In a dramatic display of dissent, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, collaborated with Independent MP Pappu Yadav and other members of the INDIA coalition to stage a symbolic skit within the Parliament complex. This performance, which took place on Friday, was aimed at highlighting the alleged misappropriation of donations intended for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The protest also served as a response to the police's aggressive actions against students during the 'Sansad Chalo' march held on July 20. The demonstration unfolded in front of Makar Dwar, where opposition lawmakers vocally demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, chanting slogans such as "Amit Shah istifa do" and "Amit Shah sadan mein aao." They accused Shah of being absent from parliamentary proceedings while serious allegations were being raised against him.
As part of their theatrical protest, the opposition MPs placed donation boxes prominently on the steps of Makar Dwar. Pappu Yadav, clad in saffron robes, sat beside these boxes, adding a visual element to the skit. During the performance, Rahul Gandhi and his fellow MPs pretended to deposit money into the boxes, only for Yadav to comically pocket the cash, symbolizing the alleged theft of funds meant for the temple. This act was not only a critique of the alleged financial misconduct but also a broader commentary on the government's handling of the situation. Prominent figures such as Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several MPs from the Samajwadi Party and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha participated in the protest, demonstrating a united front against the government's actions.
