Noida Woman Faces FIR for Alleged Remarks Against PM Modi During Protest

A 25-year-old woman from Noida has been charged after reportedly making inappropriate comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest held at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. This demonstration, which took place on July 23, was organized in response to allegations of paper leaks. The incident has raised questions regarding the appropriateness of using criminal charges in situations involving free speech and protest.

The woman, identified as Ruchika Singh, became the subject of a complaint filed by Smriti Singh, a Ghaziabad resident, at the Expressway Police Station in Noida. The complaint, lodged on a Wednesday, accused Ruchika Singh of using abusive language directed at the Prime Minister. It further claimed that her statements not only disrespected the dignity of the Prime Minister's office but also had the potential to incite hatred and disrupt public order. Following the complaint, Noida Police registered a Zero FIR, which is a type of report that allows police to file charges even if the incident occurred outside their jurisdiction. Subsequently, the case was handed over to the Delhi Police for further investigation.
