The epicenter of this seismic event was identified to be approximately 4 kilometers southeast of the city of Uki, occurring at a shallow depth of just 10 kilometers. This shallow depth contributed to the intense shaking experienced in the region, leading to heightened concerns among residents and officials alike.

The JMA reported that the earthquake reached a Level 7 on Japan's Shindo seismic intensity scale, which is the highest classification available. This rating indicates that the shaking was extremely violent in the most affected areas, prompting immediate responses from local authorities. In light of the earthquake, the agency issued a tsunami warning for certain coastal regions of Kyushu, predicting that waves could reach heights of up to one meter by around 5 PM local time.
