Concerns Rise After IED Found During Bangladesh Rath Yatra Celebration

On a day marked by the Hindu community's celebration of Lord Jagannath's return through the Rath Yatra in Bangladesh, alarming news emerged regarding the discovery of an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed within an umbrella. This incident has ignited fears of a potential terror plot aimed at the already vulnerable Hindu minority in the country. The device was reportedly equipped with a battery and an electrical circuit, designed to be detonated remotely, raising serious questions about the safety of religious gatherings in Bangladesh.

The IED was located near the Motijheel Metro Rail station in Dhaka, and fortunately, it was detected before it could be activated, thus preventing what could have been a catastrophic event during this significant religious ceremony. Reports indicate that a passerby, aged 33, sustained injuries from shrapnel during the operation to safely dispose of the explosive. According to sources from the Bomb Disposal Unit, the device contained approximately 1 to 1.5 kilograms of sulfur packed inside a metal pipe, along with numerous small iron balls, highlighting the potential lethality of the device.
