The much-anticipated film The India Story, featuring prominent actors Kajal Aggarwal and Shreyas Talpade, made its debut in theaters on July 24, 2026. Unfortunately, the film experienced a disappointing turnout on its first day, with audiences showing little interest. Despite the star power and the film's intriguing premise, The India Story struggled to attract viewers, leading to a lackluster box office performance.
According to reports from Sacnilk, The India Story garnered a mere Rs 16 lakh in net earnings on its opening day in India. The film's gross revenue was slightly higher, estimated at around Rs 18 lakh, which also represented its total worldwide earnings, as there were no international sales recorded on the first day. This performance is particularly concerning given the film's production budget, which ranges between Rs 20 crore and Rs 30 crore, indicating a significant gap between the initial earnings and the financial expectations set by its budget.
Directed by Chetan DK, The India Story: Slow Poison in Progress is a Hindi-language drama that delves into the critical issue of pesticide usage in agriculture and its subsequent impact on health. The film not only stars Kajal Aggarwal and Shreyas Talpade but also includes a talented ensemble cast featuring Murali Sharma, Manish Wadhwa, Trisha Sarda, Atul Tiwari, Kamlesh Sawant, and Sham Mashalkar. Filming commenced in Pune, Maharashtra, in January 2025 and concluded in October of the same year, with additional scenes shot in Kolhapur. The film was released in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, aiming to reach a broader audience, yet it appears that the initial reception has not met expectations.
